To use the follower report, request your own Instagram followers and following data in JSON format. Choose All time and download the export to your device. The iOS app provides a video guide for this process.
Request the files from Instagram
The following steps match the app’s onboarding. Instagram menu labels can vary by app version and language; use the data export controls in Accounts Center if the wording on your screen differs.
- Open Instagram settings and go to Accounts Center.
- Open Your information and permissions, then Export your information.
- Select your Instagram profile and choose Export to device. Complete any sign-in or confirmation requested by Instagram itself.
- Under the information selection or customization screen, select Followers and following in the Connections section.
- Set the date range to All time and the format to JSON.
- Submit the request. When Instagram notifies you that the export is ready, return to Accounts Center and download it to your device.

Find the followers and following JSON files
Extract the downloaded archive using your device’s file manager. Look for the followers and following files; the app recognizes the following data structure and the followers data structure. Common filenames include following.json and followers_1.json. Exact folders and filenames may differ between exports.
Import the extracted JSON files through the app’s file picker. Do not select the ZIP archive, an HTML page, a screenshot, or an email attachment preview in place of the JSON data.
If your files do not import or the result looks incomplete
- Check the format. If your export contains HTML files, request a new export with JSON selected.
- Check the account and date range. Use followers and following from the same account and export, with All time selected.
- Check archive contents. If your followers are split into multiple numbered files, contact support before relying on a result from just one file. A partial followers list can make accounts appear not to follow you back.
- Check both inputs. You need both followers and following data to calculate the comparison.
